Osh frowned. “Everything’s ruined.” DH put a hand on his shoulder. “Not everything. We have each other.” Page 4: Then Ish pointed. “What’s in there?” A warehouse, full of clothes. XH held up a coat. “We can save these.” DH smiled. “For the town.” Page 5: For days, they sorted and washed. “This jacket is perfect for Mr. Jones!” Osh said. “Ms. Annie will love these boots!” Ish twirled. Page 6: As Christmas neared, the store shined with lights. “Let’s make it special!” Ish cheered. People came, smiling, hugging, thankful. Page 7: On Christmas Eve, the store filled with laughter. “Best Christmas ever,” Osh said. DH chuckled. “Better than presents?” Ish grinned. “Giving is better!” Page 8: After the holidays, DH had an idea. “How ‘bout the rodeo?” Osh gasped. “Barrel racing!” Ish clapped. “Cowboys!” Page 9: At the rodeo, they met Mae. “Your outfits are so pretty!” Ish said. Mae beamed. “I sew them myself.” “Teach us?” Osh asked. Page 10: Mae showed them how to sew. “Snip, stitch, tada!” she said. Osh made a bag. Ish decorated a dress. Page 11: As the sun set, DH hugged XH. “We’re a family again,” he said. XH smiled. “And we have a town full of friends.” Page 12: The store stayed open, always giving. Osh, Ish, XH, and DH learned— Family, like love, only grows when shared.

Next, they visited a sparkling stream. “Listen to the water,” Benny’s mother said. “God made the water to refresh us and all the animals.”

Carly-Rae is a young ballerina recieves an invitation to practice. But when she shows up it ends up being football practice and she gets all bent out of shape. But I keep showing up. Eventually I start realizing I have to get some sort of padding, so I make some out of stuff i have at home and it works for a bit but doesn’t hold up very well. Haden Edwards received an empresario contract to settle 800 families near Nacogdoches. When he arrived with the families in the 1820s, he discovered people already lived there. They arrived long before Mexico gave him the grant. Edwards became very angry and tried to take over the town. The Mexican government did not support Edwards. Instead, they annulled his contract. Edwards stayed in the area and attempted to start a rebellion. On December 21, 1826, Edwards and his supporters claimed part of East Texas free and independent of Mexico. They named it the Republic of Fredonia. They even had support of the Cherokee in the area. However, most Anglo settlers in Texas did not support Haden’s rebellion. When a group of men from Austin’s colony joined with Mexican soldiers to march on Fredonia, Haden and his brother fled to the United States. The unrest caused Mexican leaders to rethink their immigration policies.

2nd Grade Version To understand why the American Revolution happened, we need to look back at the years from 1754 to 1763. During this time, the British and the French were fighting in a war on land that is now part of the United States. This war is called the French and Indian War. The British wanted to control more land, and the French wanted to keep their land. Many Native Americans chose to help either the British or the French during this war. In 1759, British soldiers went to a city called Québec in Canada and won a big battle there. They took over another city called Montréal the next year. After that, there weren't many big battles left between the British and the French in North America. The fighting mostly stopped by 1763 when a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris was signed. Why did the British start taxing the colonists, and why did this make them mad? The British government made laws and taxes that affected the colonists. Many colonists felt proud to be British, but they believed they had rights that the king should protect. They didn't like the Stamp Act, which was a new tax. In Virginia, some leaders, called the House of Burgesses, said that the British Parliament shouldn’t be taxing them. In 1765, the prime minister of Britain was George Grenville. He created the Stamp Act because he needed money to pay for British soldiers in North America. He thought the colonists should help pay for these soldiers who were protecting them. At first, the British leaders were surprised by how upset the colonists were. Grenville did not listen to their complaints and was eventually replaced in 1766. A leader named George Washington fought in the French and Indian War along with the British. He helped lead soldiers against the French. He became a well-known leader and was even elected to help make laws in Virginia.
