Suddenly, the trees opened up to reveal a hidden winter wonderland. A frozen lake sparkled under the stars, and in the center stood a giant glowing tree. Tiny fairies fluttered around it, their wings shimmering like frost. “This is the Heart of the Winter Forest,” the fox said. “Only those who believe in magic can find it.” Warm lights glowed inside the tree, and the air smelled of chocolate and cinnamon. Little creatures with fluffy white fur brought out steaming mugs and delicious treats. Gypsy-Rose sat with her new friends, sipping hot chocolate, feeling warm and happy inside. His father is completely distraught and cries bitterly. The paramedics calm him down and dress Max's wound, but he wakes up again and starts crying. The father is allowed to take the ambulance to the children's hospital. Max and his father are admitted to the hospital, where his score on the GIasgow coma scale for children is 9, confirming the diagnosis of moderate traumatic brain injury with bruising on the right. His wound can be taped and closed with terile adhesive wound strips (Steri-Strip@).
