Until my turn came. A pair of hands gently lifted me, and I panicked. Where were they taking me? Where was Mom? The car drove and drove, the scenery outside kept changing, the smells were different, and my heart pounded hard. When we arrived, I heard a new voice: “Wow… he’s so tiny!” “Yeah, cute, right? Don’t worry, he’ll get used to it.” “But… I’m not sure how to take care of a dog.” My breath shortened. They weren’t sure? What if they didn’t want me? At first, it was tough.
